Batman vs Iron Man: Who'd Win Wearing the Other's Best Armor

In their own respective comics universes, Iron Man and Batman are the pinnacles of superhero genius and preparation. They always have specific equipment for specific scenarios, and are prepared for any other situation that may arise. They have both created mechanized suits of armor to take on the likes of gods, but what if they traded armor? Who would win between Batman and Iron Man using the other's best equipment?

Iron Man has created many armors during his time as the Armored Avenger. Since this is his main theme, he definitely has the edge in terms of expertise. He has created powerful armor such as the Hulkbuster, an armor made of the Asgardian metal Uru, and the Thorbuster suit that has the capability to take down Thor and is modeled after the Asgardian Destroyer armor. However, it wasn't until Tony Stark: Iron Man #10, written by Dan Slott with art by Valerio Schiti, that Tony would make his most powerful armor known as the Godbuster armor. Stark's brother Arno calls it Tony's "ultimate weapon" and when Ironheart tries to analyze the suit, the readings are off the charts. Tony ends up destroying the armor himself, due to it being too powerful for reality. The full capabilities of this suit are not revealed, but it is clearly Iron Man's most powerful armor.

Batman may be known for his stealth, but that doesn't mean he can't fight the gods like his Marvel competitor. The Hellbat armor is a powerful piece of equipment that Batman designed but it took the entire Justice League to build. It first appeared in Batman and Robin #33, written by Peter Tomasi and art by Patrick Gleason, when Batman uses it to invade the planet Apokolips and defeat Darkseid. Just a few years prior in Justice League: Origin, written by Geoff Johns with art by Jim Lee, it took the entire Justice League to defeat Darkseid, and even then he was just sent back home. Batman did something alone with this armor that the Justice League has struggled to accomplish together. The only downside is that the armor feeds upon his metabolism, so if he wears it for too long he may perish. The armor can turn invisible, has voice commands, and is made of a shifting kinetic nanite metal composition that allows for it to form around him whenever it is needed. It can also generate shields and energy. It is truly the Dark Knight's best suit of armor.

In a battle where Batman is wearing the Godbuster armor and Iron Man is wearing the Hellbat armor, both fighters would be at a bit of a disadvantage. Marvel recently introduced something is known as the "clamshell protocol" for Iron Man's armors, which removes people from his armor. Batman has similar measures for his own armor, but for the sake of the battle, these factors will be excluded. The battle essentially comes down to a time trial due to the fact that the Hellbat armor slowly kills the user, but it is situationally the superior tool. All of Tony's armors require advanced A.I. or specific alterations to the human body for it to function at full capacity. These are alterations Bruce just doesn't have and thus Batman would be placed at a disadvantage, even though he is a stronger fighter. The Hellbat armor has more of a variety when it comes to documented forms of attacks and abilities. Iron Man would likely be able take utilize these attacks and take down Batman before the Hellbat armor completely drained him.

While Batman may be more skilled than Iron Man, the disadvantages of fighting in this armor simply outweigh his natural advantages. Since the Godbuster armor weakens itself without a proper pilot, it will tip the scales just enough for Tony to defeat Batman within the time he has to operate it. Ironically, it seems that Batman is actually the superior blacksmith of these two heroes, while Iron Man is the one with the contingency plans that allow him to reign supreme in this epic, but unorthodox duel.
