Supergirl: 10 Unpopular Opinions About Kara (According To Reddit)

Kara Danvers is the woman behind Supergirl, and one of the most beloved characters on the CW show. With her quirky personality, her kindness, and her overall joyful demeanor, Kara is the kind of person everyone wants to have as part of their friend group. She is dependable, funny, and always there when she is needed.

However Kara is not perfect, and she even at times has acted as a villain. In fact, for some fans on Reddit, Kara is not the best character on Supergirl, and they are not afraid to express their unpopular feelings about her.

10 Kara apologizes too much

Finding out that Kara is Supergirl was a heartbreaking moment for Lena Luthor, who considers Kara one of her best friends and felt terribly betrayed when she learned that she had been lied to all these years. Yet, Kara's choice to keep Lena in the dark about her true identity in order to protect her from potential harm is understandable.

All in all, Kara had her reasons and she apologized to Lena for not telling her sooner. But according to this Redditor, Kara practically begged for Lena's forgiveness, and that was too much.

9 Her journalism career is nonsensical

Kara's career is all over the place for this Reddit user, who believes the show only remembers that Kara is a journalist once in a while and uses it only when it is convenient. It's not that Kara shouldn't be a reporter, it's more that she hardly ever is one.

The current sixth season, for instance. While Kara is stuck in the Phantom Zone, her colleagues at CatCo cover for her saying she is on an assignment with Cat Grant. Will Kara have to produce some Pulitzer-worthy piece of journalism when she gets back to back up her cover story? Probably not, because as this fan argues, the show doesn't put much wait on this being her day job.

8 Kara & Mon-El made a good couple

The die-hard fans of Supergirl hated the quickly-ended relationship between Kara and Mon-El. In fact, the overall sentiment regarding Kara and Mon-El within the show's fandom is so strong that some fans are hesitant to publicly state that they didn't have an issue with that relationship.

Yet, they are out there and they support the fact that Kara was with someone who, just like her, had lost their own world and with whom she had a genuine connection.

7 Perhaps Kara should remain single

Aside from rejecting Kara and Mon-El's romance, certain fans are simply not convinced by any of the relationships Kara gets into and would rather see her remain single until the end of the show.

In fact, Kara hasn't been in any sort of strong relationship since her break-up with Mon-El and most of her other love interests have been fleeting, at best. Given that the show is halfway through its last season, it wouldn't be surprising if Kara remains proudly single through the end of Supergirl.

6 Kara is just a pale copy of Superman

This Redditor thinks that Supergirl's writers have not done a very good job with Kara's character and that they actually only made her a female version of Clark Kent. The likeness between the two Kryptonians, from the fact that they are both reporters to their similarly dorky personalities, and the fact that they share the same nemesis (aka Lex Luthor) are testaments to the idea that Kara is just a copy of Superman.

This fan goes on to explain that in the comic books Kara is much less in tune with humans and doesn't feel like she fits in on Earth, which if it had been explored in the show would indeed have made Kara much more different from Clark.

5 Bangs are beautiful

It appears that there was a clash amongst Supergirl fans when Melissa Benoist started sporting bangs in season 5, and most of them were not on board with it. But for a couple of fans on Reddit, including this one, the new haircut was a welcome change.

In fact, Benoist herself explained that, although it is not stated in the show, she knows how Kara got this new hairstyle: she used her laser beams into a mirror that reflected back and cut her hair. Apparently, that's how her cousin Clark Kent shaves as well.

4 Kara & Lena's friendship is toxic

While there is a whole section of the Supergirl fandom that ships a romance between Lena Luthor and Kara Danvers, a fan on Reddit thinks that Kara and Lena do not even make good friends.

The tipping point for them may have been the terrible story arc about Lena wanting to make Kara pay for lying to her about being Supergirl, but overall it seems that this fan simply isn't convinced by their friendship and feels like their relationship is borderline abusive.

3 Kara & Brainy should have been a couple

In the show, Brainy is with Nia but, for a few fans here and there, he and Kara should have ended together.

The fans who ship this romance are a minority but they seem to believe that this pairing would have made a cute couple, and it is particularly interesting when considering that these two characters have never been set up in the show as a potential couple. But who knows, the show isn't over yet, there is still time to make it happen!

2 William & Kara are a solid match

The popular sentiment regarding William in Supergirl is that his character feels very much forced into the show as a love interest for Kara. Most of the fans are not buying it, except this one, who sees potential there and believes that since William is also a reporter and someone unafraid to put himself in danger for the sake of a good story, he is a good match for Kara.

Now, it is obvious that Supergirl fans have a lot of opinions and feelings about who Kara should or shouldn't be dating, but William is overall at the bottom of the list of potential suitors, despite the fact that he is very sweet to Kara.

1 Supergirl shouldn't have won her fight with Superman

In the second season of the show, Supergirl and Superman shared a fight scene, and according to this fan, Kara should not have won that fight.

The fan argues that, at the time, Superman was supposedly more experienced and more powerful than Supergirl and that she should not have been able to beat him due to the fact that she was still training to be the superhero she wanted to be, and that she did not have full control over her powers.
